Ministry Description of Church Offices

1.            Administrative Council:

The administrative Council is the governing body of the Church. It is the main decision making body of the church. It is made up by all the elected officials of the church and all are encouraged to attend all meetings. All ministry areas are responsible and accountable to the Administrative Council. It may direct any work area or committee within the local church to such work as is needed by the church. The only exceptions to this is covered by the Discipline, and these are under the direction of the Charge Conference or Church Conference.

Administrative Council Chairperson:

The Administrative Council Chairperson directs the meetings of the council in an orderly fashion so that the council stays on task in keeping with the ministry description of each office. The Chairperson holds the members of the Council accountable to their ministry area and to the Discipline of the UMC. The Chairperson may call a meeting of the Council with the knowledge of the Pastor at any time.

2.            Staff Parish Relations (SPR):

The SPR is responsible for the overall supervision of the hired employees of the church. The SPR in consultation with the pastor is responsible for hiring, recommending salaries, job descriptions, evaluations, and termination of employment. The SPR is responsible for communicating the needs of the church to the pastor, and District Superintendent. They evaluate ministry performance and make recommendations to the Administrative Council and Charge Conference. The pastor is a member of the SPR and must be informed of all meetings.

SPRC Chairperson:

The SPRC Chairperson is responsible for the orderly direction of the SPR Ministry.

3.            Trustee Ministry:

The trustees are responsible for the care, maintenance, and upkeep of all the real property of the church. The Trustees may recommend purchase of property, new buildings, or maintenance to the Administrative Council. The Charge (Church) Conference may direct the Trustees to act as the legal representatives of the Church in the purchase of land, acquiring loans, oversight of the real property, or signing contracts. The Trustees make sure the church is properly insured and that the liabilities of the church are covered.

Trustee Chairperson:

The Trustee Chairperson is responsible for the orderly direction of the Board of

Trustees.

4.            Finance Ministry:

The Finance Ministry shall receive treasurer and secretary reports and evaluate the financial status of the church and guide the fiscal responsibility of the church. The finance committee is responsible for recommending yearly budgets and amendments to the budget to the Administrative Council. The Finance Ministry is responsible for producing, maintaining, and securing all church financial records. The Finance committee will monitor and communicate the financial condition of the church to the pastor, council, and appropriate ministry area.

Finance Chairperson:

The Finance Chairperson directs the meetings of the Finance Ministry in an orderly fashion so that the work of the ministry keeps on task as defined in the Book of Discipline.

 

Treasurer:

The church treasurer(s) shall disburse all money contributed to causes represented in the local church budget, and such other funds and contributions as the church council may determine. The treasurer(s) shall remit each month to the conference treasurer all World Service and conference benevolence funds then on hand. Contributions to benevolence shall not be used for any cause other than that to which they have been given. The church treasurer shall make regular and detailed reports on funds received and expended to the committee on finance and the church council.10 The treasurer(s) shall be adequately bonded.

 

Financial Secretary:

Posts receipts and checks for pledges, memorials, weekly offerings, capital funds drive and other gifts to the church’s accounts. Records receipts to individual member accounts indicating correct category or receipt including pledge, memorial, capital funds or other gifts.

5.            Worship Ministry:

This ministry is designed to coordinate the nurturing ministries within our congregation. It is designed to help organize and provide guidance for the overall spiritual development of the church as it seeks to find ways of being Disciples of Christ. The Worship committee helps the pastor know what is effective in worship. It is responsible for recruiting scripture readers and greeters. It is also responsible for providing the bread and juice for communion.

6.            Education Ministry:

Composed of the Education Committee Chair and Teachers, the Education Ministry has oversight of the educational program of the Church.

7.            United Methodist Men:

The U M Men seeks to encourage the men of the church to seek relationships with one another that foster accountability and transformation through prayer, bible study, and social uplift.

8.            Lay Leadership Committee:

The Lay Leadership Committee is responsible for assisting the pastor in identifying people who have the graces and skills necessary to enhance the excellence of ministry in the church. The committee recommends to the Administrative council people to serve on various ministries within the church.

9.            Youth and Children's Ministry:

These ministries provide a well-balanced and well-planned program of activities for the youth and children. The ministries are responsible for keeping the youth focused on the mission of the church; while at the same time helping the youth develop personal relationships with Christ. All volunteers are required to go through the necessary training sessions and submit to any other requirements as deemed necessary by the church.

10.            Pre-School Ministry:

The Pre-School Board oversees the operations of the Pre-School, which include determining educational materials used, salaries of Pre-School workers, budgets, and administrative policies.

11.            Scholarship Committee

The scholarship committee determines guidelines for receiving scholarships and determines who receives them.
