Pastor Scott is married to Carol. They have two children. He is a graduate of Olathe (North) High School, the University of Kansas, and Asbury Theological Seminary. Also he is a veteran of the United States Navy, having served with the First Marine Division. He is a Spofford Home (Kansas City, MO) board member, Vice-Chair of the Johnson County Commission on Aging, Past President and now Secretary of Spring Hill Rotary Club, Secretary of Compassionate Consultation Initiative Project (CCIP), member of the American Legion, and a Meals-on-Wheels delivery person.

John Wesley's statement "The world is my parish." has led him to go on a mission trip to Haiti and six mission trips to Zimbabwe, where he helped build the first building of the Zimunya Skills Training Center and start Tariro Marketplace, which makes Mabvazuwa Sunflower Oil.
