From a sermon given by Pastor Scott Hannon

"In order to appreciate happiness that flows from holiness, you need to free yourself of the happiness that flows from feelings. That happiness is mercurial. It changes as your feelings change. Happiness that flows from holiness is God-centered. Because God is stable and unchanging, happiness that is God-centered is stable and unchanging. No, that does not mean the happiness we enjoy from holiness will always be ideal. The reason is that our feelings often interfere with our enjoyment of happiness. Because they fluctuate, our experience of happiness will fluctuate. What we need to do is to learn how to anchor our experience of happiness in God’s unchanging nature. God is the same regardless of what we experience. Being holy connects us to God and to the happiness that God intends for each one of us to enjoy. As long as our connection to God is strong, our experience of happiness will be strong. So be holy happy."
